April is nearly done and left all of us with a severe case of whiplash courtesy the number of changes we’ve witnessed in the world of watches and outside of it. We hope all of you have found your oasis away from the doomscrolling and madness.
We know we did by going back to the things that make anything worthwhile - doing interesting things with and for interesting people. We caught up with old friends and made new ones in Geneva and Taipei, and welcomed Fears Watch Company and Massena LAB to the Alternative Horological Alliance (AHA).
A final reminder that we will be in Hong Kong and Singapore over the next few days with our friends from the AHA. Do drop by to check out some watches (maybe even a prototype of the next launch), and say hello. More details below.
The Ghost - in all its silvery titanium glory - made its public appearance as well. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who ordered one. We’re working our way through deliveries and looking forward to seeing your wristshots on Instagram. In case you missed the Ghost release, check out the hands on coverage by Mike Stockton at Fratello Watches or head over to the product page to learn more and get yours!
A minor operational update, but we’re also happy to report that we now support payments via Google Pay on our website. Availability also depends on local regulations and your bank of course but for many of our customers in the US, Europe and parts of Asia, this offers an additional (and hopefully) seamless payment processing option.
Since our Project 21 launch, we’ve had several conversations regarding some of the challenges in realising this watch. We looked at the movement in last month’s Journal, so this month we wanted to share a BTS peek at the machining and finishing of the tantalum monobloc cases at J.N. Shapiro’s workshop in California. Praneeth, our CEO shot this brief photoessay while visiting Josh and his team (ostensibly for work, but we suspect to settle a wager on who’s faster on the simulator in Gran Turismo 7).
Our non-watch highlight for this month also comes from Praneeth and is the ‘Bridging the Rift’ documentary on YouTube. The series takes a look at the process behind Netflix and Riot Games’ incredibly popular show, Arcane. While significantly different from designing or engineering a watch, there are a lot of parallels that remain like obsessively considering every detail.
Until next month,
Team MING
