We are proud to present what is (likely) the first ever of its kind because we lack the language to describe it fully: the MING Polymesh, the world’s first 3D printed, titanium bracelet-strap hybrid.
The MING Polymesh is the result of seven complete redesigns leading to an entirely new topology that has more motion engineered into the radial axis than the lateral one. Each of the 1,693 components including the buckle are formed simultaneously and are hooked into their neighbour in a closed loop. The Polymesh would not be possible without 3D printing as it cannot be made using traditional subtractive methods such as machining.
In addition to being the world’s first 3D printed bracelet-strap hybrid, we believe it is also an example of how innovation in manufacturing can drive innovation in design and create products that could not have existed previously.
We partnered with Sisma S.p.A. in Italy and ProMotion SA in Switzerland for prototyping and manufacturing this extremely demanding product in grade 5 titanium. The production process takes several hours per bracelet because each bracelet requires several hundred individual layers of sintering.
The MING Polymesh: a bracelet that wears like a strap, and a strap with the tactility of a bracelet.
